I am asking you today for songs with Five Words in the Title.

One of our finalists today (see below) is Sam Cooke. Arguably his most famous song is A Change is Going to Come which doesn’t seem like a bad place to start.

Today’s Final: Only

Only Sixteen by Sam Cooke faces Only Yesterday by the Carpenters.

Both of our finalist today died in their early 30’s. Sam Cooke’s career only lasted 8 years before he was shot and killed by a motel manager in Los Angeles. During that time, he released 29 singles that charted in the Billboard Top 40 which is better than one every three months.

As well as vocals, Karen Carpenter started off playing drums for the Carpenters (she was also a talented guitarist). When their careers took off, she moved out from behind the drums and was replaced by Cubby O’Brien. Cubby was one of the original Mouseketeers on ABC’s The Mickey Mouse Club during the late 1950’s. The series was revived as The All-New Mickey Mouse Club between 1989 and 1994 and featured a number of cast members who went on to greater things including Ryan Gosling; Justin Timberlake; Britney Spears; Christina Aguilera and Keri Russell.

Elsewhere:

The semi-final in the religion competition features Losing My Religion, Hallelujah, The Devil Went Down to Georgia and Shine. I’m not entirely sure that I should have allowed the devil to creep into this category, but it’s done now.
